Private vs Public Healthcare

Most international residents use the private healthcare system. Malaysian public hospitals are competent but involve long waiting times and are not set up for international patients. Private hospitals and clinics are efficient, English-speaking, and very well-equipped.

GP Clinics: First Line of Care

Private GP clinics are found on every street. Typically open 8am–8pm or later, walk-in friendly. Consultation fees: RM 30–80. Prescriptions dispensed on-site.

Health Insurance

Corporate assignees: typically covered by employer's international health insurance. Self-employed and nomads: AXA, Cigna, Allianz Care, and Bupa are widely accepted at KL private hospitals. Confirm Malaysia private hospital coverage is active before departure.

Dental Care

Private dental care in KL is very high quality and significantly cheaper than Western markets. Consultation and scaling: RM 80–150. Specialist work (implants, orthodontics) at quality KL clinics is a fraction of Australian or UK prices.

Pharmacy

Guardian and Watsons have locations in virtually every KL mall. Wide range of prescription and OTC medications. Bring a supply of specific medications for the initial period.
