What to pack for a 3-month stay in KL (and what to leave behind)

Skip the obvious

A proper mid-term unit comes with bed linen, towels, full cookware, washing machine, iron, and a stocked welcome kit. Don't pack any of that.

What's genuinely worth bringing

• Universal travel adapter (Malaysia uses UK-style 3-pin plugs)
• Lightweight rain jacket — 15 minutes of warning, daily, from May to October
• One pair of real walking shoes — KL pavements are uneven
• Modest layer — for mosques, temples, and very cold offices
• Prescription meds for the full stay — KL pharmacies are good but brand names differ
• Power strip from your home country — handy for charging multiple devices

What to buy on day one (cheaper here)

• SIM card (Hotlink, RM 30)
• Laundry detergent (Tesco Online or 99 Speedmart)
• Local grocery basics
• Slippers / sandals — the most-used footwear you'll own here
